Juanes ft. Nelly Furtado - Fotografia

Lets play some latin music today!
Here you have the wonderful Juanes with "Fotografia" which means "Photo".

Fotografia - Juanes

Escape (The Pina Colada Song)

Well, I went to see the film "Wanted" in the other day, and surprisingly, this song appeared in the film. I think that this song is a classic!

Escape (the Pina Colada Song) - Rupert Holmes

I hope you enjoy it! Plus I'm going to post the lyrics, because I think they're so loose and funny!

I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long.
Like a worn-out recording, of a favorite song.
So while she lay there sleeping, I read the paper in bed.
And in the personals column, there was this letter I read:

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for, write to me, and escape."

I didn't think about my lady, I know that sounds kind of mean.
But me and my old lady, had fallen into the same old dull routine.
So I wrote to the paper, took out a personal ad.
And though I'm nobody's poet, I thought it wasn't half-bad.

"Yes, I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
I'm not much into health food, I am into champagne.
I've got to meet you by tomorrow noon, and cut through all this red tape.
At a bar called O'Malley's, where we'll plan our escape."

So I waited with high hopes, then she walked in the place.
I knew her smile in an instant, I knew the curve of her face.
It was my own lovely lady, and she said, "Oh, it's you."
And we laughed for a moment, and I said, "I never knew"..

"That you liked Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
And the feel of the ocean, and the taste of champagne.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape."

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
You're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape."

The Dark Knight (2008)

Yesterday, I went to see the much antecipated film "The Dark Knight" and the film was good, very good... but I would not name it as the greatest film of all time. According to IMDB this film is better than "The Godfather", oops... I don't think so.

Director: Christopher Nolan

Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman

Plot: Batman (Christian Bale) raises the stakes in his war against crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker (Heath Ledger)...

My review: I never paid much attention to this particular superhero, but with "Batman Begins" I began to find this character very interesting: unlike the majority of other superheroes, Batman was born without any superpowers and basically, he trained and built himself to become a hero, besides from that, he relies on technology and his intelligence to fight crime... which makes it much more believable! "The Dark Knight" appears as a perfect sequel to its predecessor "Batman Begins". The acting from the main cast was once again pretty solid, I guess that the actors weren't allowed to reinvent their characters too much because we are talking about the comic book's universe, "The Joker" character was definately the one that suffered a little bit more of reinvention thanks to the wonderful actor Heath Ledger. Although, people are talking about an Oscar for Mr. Ledger I don't think that his performance was that spectacular, I think that he should be nominated but shouldn't win it, honestly, I think that his performance was good, but there were times where I thought that he was just trying too hard to be bad... Back to film itself: the story was good and the dialogue was great, I loved the moral dilemmas brought to the film, I think that the film touches several themes that are somehow universal and timeless: such as corruption, how despair and cowardice makes people commit the most unethical acts, the good and evil, personal sacrifice and a strong sense of justice. The film was able to bring some emphaty for the Batman character: he is trying to do the good and the right thing, but his actions are often misunderstood by the general public, even when he saves the Gotham citizens from the criminals he doesn't claim any credit for it and it's even persecuted for crimes that he didn't even commit, just look at situation where he took all the blame for Harvey Dent's crimes just to protect the Gotham's citizens faith in goodness and justice. That's why Batman is "The Dark Knight": he is generally regarded as an outlaw by the Gotham citizens, but at the same time he is the one that saves the people from the criminals by the end of the day, he is the silent vigilante... I think that the film was very appealing because it makes you think about certain questions. Batman rules!

My personal rating: 8.5/10

Corinne Bailey Rae - Put Your Records

This song is going to be a classic, oh wait... I think it already is! =)

Corinne Bailey Rae - Just Like A Star

Actually, there are two video versions of this song but I like this one more. The song is great, just like a little poem! The video is simple but mesmerizing! Perfect!

Corinne Bailey Rae

Today is dedicated to Corinne Bailey Rae an English singer and songwriter, once again, one of my favorites. Her big breakthrough came with the her debut album "Corinne Bailey Rae" released in February in 2006. Personally, I thought that her whole album was great! Usually, we only have like two or three favorite songs from an album but she managed to make every song a favorite! I think that her album was very honest and didn't have much of that commercial component, I guess it was that attittude that made me like her music!

Donna Maria - Quase Perfeito

This song is called "Quase Perfeito" and means "Almost Perfect" in portuguese. Donna Maria is a great portuguese band, they make a perfect a mix of portuguese contemporaneous music with traditional portuguese music instruments. I hope you enjoy it!

Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Well, I went to see Kung Fu Panda the other day. Please don't laugh!...

Director: Mark Osborne

Cast: Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, David Cross

Plot: Po (Jack Black) is a lazy panda, who works every day in his family's noodle shop and happens to have a little secret: Po is the biggest Kung Fu fan around. One day in a Kung Fu ceremony, Po is unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy and his dreams become reality when he joins the world of Kung Fu and studies alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five: Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu) and Monkey (Jackie Chan) under the leadership of their mentor: Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). Meanwhile, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat. Can he turn his dreams of becoming a Kung Fu master into reality and save the people from Tai Lung's rage?...

My review: Honestly, the main reason why I went to see this film it was because of its celebrity cast. But this film turned out to be a very pleasant surprise, I'm a girl that likes the kung fu films genre and "Kung Fu Panda" really captured this spirit for an animated film. I think that this is a very sweet film and almost a classic for the animated genre because it touches so many timeless issues such as: the idea of a "supposedly nobody" that gets by chance an incredible opportunity to make his dreams come true, and I think that we can all relate ourselves with that idea; the consequences of pride and how it can blinds us from certain things; it talks about the spirit of self sacrifice and so many other things. One of my favorite scenes was the one where Master Oogway and Master Shifu are on top of the hill discussing about the idea of Po being the Dragon Warrior, Oogway says to Shifu that all he has to do is to believe, then in the end he adds the following quote: "The past is history, the future is a mistery and the present is a gift", I just loved the way how they've mixed profounf issues with a light approach. Very educational for kids and adults too! Lol!

In The Mood For Love (2000)

Well for today, I choose the film "In The Mood For Love".

Director: Wong Kar Wai

Cast: Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung

Plot: Set in Hong Kong, 1962, Chow Mo-Wan (Tony Leung) is a newspaper editor who moves into a new building with his wife. At approximately the same time, Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung), a beautiful secretary and her executive husband also move in to the crowded building. With their spouses often away, Chow and Li-zhen spend most of their time together as friends. The tentative friendship between the two neighbours becomes more complex when they discover that their respective spouses are having an affair...

My review: Personally, this is one of my favorites of all time. I'm not a girl that is very into romantic films because I think they are always so "cliché" but this was a wonderful surprise. This was the film that made like Wong Kar Wai because his style is so unique and peculiar, he can make the most romantic films in this world without using the usual cheesy romance plot. This film is very romantic in the sense that, we can see that the main characters have deep feelings for each other but they don't express it in a very evident way, the same feeling is applied to the sensuality of the characters, they can be very sensuous without being too explicit about their intentions. Plus, I loved the scenes that were shot in slow motion because it captivates even more the viewer's attention. Simply gorgeous and very romantic in a very "unromantic" way. Keep your mind open because it's definately worth watching it! In the Mood for Love

Katy Perry - Ur So Gay

This is definately a very funny song. You are so gay... that you even don't like penis! Too funny! Ur So Gay

Katy Perry - Thinking Of You

This is a touchy song, it talks about a situation that most us have already experience. Nonetheless, thinking about another person when you are with somebody else is not cool... Thinking Of You

Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl

This is one of my favorite songs from her album "One of the Boys". The beat is so catchy and the lyrics are so daring. Personally, I'm not a lesbian but I do like to sing this song when I'm walking in the streets. Lol! I Kissed A Girl

Katy Perry

I'm going to dedicate my next three posts to a promising artist called Katy Perry.

She is an American singer-songwriter and occasional actress. She is most notable for her worldwide smash hit, "I Kissed a Girl" which in 2008 topped the Billboard Hot 100.
